3 What is a Proportion?

A proportion says two ratios are equal. If you scale both parts by the same number, the ratio stays the same.

Both simplify to 1 : 2 → They're proportional! ✓

4 Cross Multiplication Trick

To find a missing value, cross multiply:

Find x:   3/6 = x/10

➊ Cross multiply: 3 × 10 = 6 × x

➋ Simplify: 30 = 6x

➌ Divide: x = 30 ÷ 6 = 5
